DYLAN TATTERSALL SENTENCED TO NEARLY 12 YEARS IN LANCASTER AFTER SHOCKING SEXUAL ASSAULTS
Dylan Tattersall, aged 28, committed a heinous series of attempted sexual assaults against a victim in the early hours of June 19, 2022, within the confines of Lancashire.During the terrifying incident, Tattersall allegedly attempted to sexually assault the woman not once, but twice while wielding a metal bar as a threatening weapon, significantly exacerbating the danger and trauma faced by the victim.
The victim, in a courageous act of self-preservation amidst the ordeal, was able to secretly capture photographs of Tattersall using her mobile phone.
These images served as crucial evidence, enabling law enforcement to act swiftly and effectively once she managed to notify the authorities about the assault.
Following her report, law enforcement officers from Lancashire moved quickly to arrest Dylan Tattersall later the same day.
He was promptly charged with two counts of rape, along with a series of breaches related to a non-molestation order that had been previously issued to him.
The charges reflected the gravity of his actions and the threat he posed.
The legal proceedings against Tattersall included a trial held in December 2022.
During the trial, a jury found him guilty of breaching the non-molestation order.
However, they were unable to reach a unanimous verdict regarding the accusations of rape, leaving some charges unresolved at that time.
Despite the mixed verdicts from the jury, Tattersall later entered a guilty plea to two alternative counts of attempted rape.
This plea was made after the victim was prepared to testify once more, demonstrating her resilience and willingness to support the case despite the traumatic experiences.
The court proceedings culminated in a sentencing hearing on Tuesday, July 4.
At Preston Crown Court, Judge Heather Lloyd sentenced Dylan Tattersall to a prison term of eleven years and eight months, recognizing the severity of his crimes.
The judge also classified Tattersall as a dangerous offender, which warranted a three-year extension to his license upon release.
Furthermore, Tattersall was ordered to be registered on the Sex Offenders Register for the rest of his life, and a restraining order was issued to prevent him from contacting or approaching the victim.
Detective Sergeant Lee Harris of East CID commented on the case, emphasizing the bravery shown by the victim.
He praised her for reporting the assault and for her resilience in giving evidence during the trial, even if it meant reliving the traumatic events.
DS Harris stated, “Both the victim and I welcome the sentence and other sanctions that have been placed upon Tattersall today, which reflects the seriousness of the case and sends a clear message that offenders like Tattersall will be brought to justice.
I hope the outcome of this case encourages other victims of sexual violence to come forward, knowing they will be listened to and believed.”
