OFFENDER JAILED FOR 12 YEARS FOR BRUTAL ASSAULT AND RAPE IN KILDARE WOODS
A convicted sex offender, Dylan McMahon (31), was sentenced to 12 years for raping and assaulting his then partner in the woods, demonstrating an âappalling level of degradationâ.During the attack, he pushed dog faeces, sticks, and leaves into her mouth until she struggled to breathe and then led her through the woods, threatening her life, and subjected her to a prolonged assault including forced sexual acts and further threats.
The court heard he has 36 previous convictions, including theft, assault causing harm, and robbery.
He is currently serving a six-year sentence with the final year suspended, and a two-year and nine-month sentence for other offenses, including robbery.
The judge, Patrick McGrath, noted the repeated and prolonged nature of the cruelty and his traumatic brain injury.
He imposed a 12-year sentence, with the last two years suspended, to run consecutively to his previous sentence, as he was on bail when the attack occurred.
McMahon interrupted several times during sentencing, disclaiming guilt for rape but accepting the bond.
The court described the attack as brutal, involving punching, kicking, spitting, and threatening his victim, and cited the impact on her, including flashbacks, nightmares, and homelessness.
