DOG OWNER AVOIDS JAIL AFTER HIS PUPPY IS BEATEN TO DEATH
A man from Coventry has been prohibited from owning pets following the death of his puppy.Dylan Christopher Bayliss, aged 20 and residing in Bell Green, admitted to an offence related to animal welfare after his three-month-old Blu, died from injuries caused by blunt force.
The RSPCA launched an investigation after Blu was taken to veterinary clinic with a fractured skull and eye socket.
The veterinarian suspected the injuries were not accidental, and a post-mortem confirmed several severe injuries consistent with blunt impact trauma.
Examination revealed swelling and reddening of the skin on the left side of Blu’s head, along with a fractured cheekbone.
Internal checks showed blood inside the skull cavity, hemorrhages on the brain, and blood clots in Blu’s left ear canal.
Additionally, an older rib fracture was identified.
The absence of puncture wounds on the skin indicated that the injuries to the head and chest resulted from blunt force rather than an attack by another animal.
At Coventry Magistrates' Court on June 11, Bayliss was sentenced to a seven-year ban on keeping animals, a 16-week suspended imprisonment, 150 hours of unpaid community work, and up to 15 days of rehabilitative activities.
He was also ordered to pay £1,000 in costs and a £154 victim surcharge.
Furthermore, he received an extra five days of rehab activities for breaching a previous suspended sentence linked to a different offence.
