MANCHESTER SEX OFFENDER DURVILLE BARZEY SENTENCED TO 19 YEARS IN PRISON FOR CHILD SEXUAL ASSAULT
Durville Barzey, a 42-year-old who was classified as a highly dangerous offender, received a 19-year prison sentence after being convicted of numerous severe sexual crimes involving a 13-year-old girl. The court found him guilty of several offenses, such as three counts of sexual activity with a minor aged 13, sexual assault of a girl under 13, rape of a 13-year-old, and attempting to encourage a girl of the same age to engage in sexual acts.
He is likely to serve at least 15 years before being eligible for parole.
The Manchester Crown Court delivered the sentence on December 19.
PC Ellease Martindale from GMP’s Child Protection Investigation Unit stated, “Barzey is a dangerous individual, and I am glad he is off the streets and cannot harm vulnerable children.
We hope this sentence demonstrates our commitment to pursuing all avenues to secure justice for victims of serious sexual crimes.
Our team aims to encourage victims to report incidents, assuring them of our support and respectful treatment.
When victims come forward, we listen and take their cases seriously.” The report underlines the importance of encouraging the reporting of sexual offenses and mentions available support services for victims, such as Saint Mary's Sexual Assault Referral Centre, Greater Manchester Rape Crisis, and We Are Survivors.
The investigation uncovered Barzey’s predatory tendencies, and his conviction marks a notable achievement in protecting children at risk of abuse.
