BLYTH PERVERT WHO TRIED TO ENGAGE IN SEX CHAT WITH CHILD WAS SNARED BY UNDERCOVER COP
A convicted offender who attempted to engage in sexual communication with a child was apprehended by undercover police.
Duncan Fish communicated with a decoy profile on Snapchat, where he believed he was talking to a 13-year-old girl.
During the interaction, he shifted from general chat to sexual messages, including sending an explicit image of his penis and discussing sexual acts to be performed by the girl.
He also asked for explicit images of her genitals, and continued to send sexual messages and images of himself.
The court heard that he made two video calls and was waiting for a picture from the girl before police intervened.
Fish was arrested after devices were seized, revealing further evidence of his behavior, which included boxer shorts and a duvet cover with sexual exchanges.
The 38-year-old of Oxford Street, Blyth, pleaded guilty to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child and was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment suspended for two years, with 100 hours of unpaid work.
Additionally, he is required to sign the sex offenders register for ten years.
His lawyer stated that Fish was ashamed and had no reasonable explanation for his conduct during the incident, which was linked to isolation and loneliness, and mentioned that Fish had previously no sexual convictions, only three prior convictions unrelated to sexual offenses.
The court noted that Fish had lost his salary, status, and reputation as a result of his actions.
