DOUGLAS ROSCOE FROM LACHE SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES IN CHESTER
In May 2017, a disturbing case emerged involving Douglas Roscoe, a 69-year-old man from Leyfield Court in Lache, who was convicted of serious sexual offences against a teenage boy. Roscoe, a known paedophile with a criminal record dating back to 1964, was sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges of sexual assault.According to court proceedings, Roscoe engaged in a calculated scheme to lure a 15-year-old boy into a compromising situation. Using Facebook, he created a false identity by pretending to be a 16-year-old, befriending the young victim in November 2016. The teenager, believing he was communicating with someone close to his age, shared a revealing full-frontal nude photograph with Roscoe. The predator then arranged to meet the boy in person.
When the teenager arrived at the meeting point, he was shocked to find that his online acquaintance was actually Douglas Roscoe, a man significantly older and described by the victim as having “no teeth, strange shoes and quite a fat belly.” The court heard that Roscoe threatened to publish the explicit photograph if the boy did not accompany him back to his flat in Lache. Prosecutor Simon Parry detailed the events, stating, “After one week of contact with the victim, you asked to meet and threatened him, before taking him back to your flat.”
The victim provided police with a description of Roscoe’s flat, describing it as “dirty, with two sofas covered in sheets and a laptop on the table.” During the investigation, the boy revealed that Roscoe had warned him, saying, “he musn’t tell anybody if you don’t want your name in the papers.” Subsequently, Roscoe engaged in sexual acts with the young boy before he left the premises.
It was not until two months later, in January 2017, that the victim confided in a friend at school about the incident, prompting the police to become involved. Judge Patrick Thompson addressed the court, stating, “You abused him and warned him not to tell anyone. This incident may have only lasted an hour, but you’ve stolen your victim’s childhood, and that trauma will stay with him for a long time.” The judge emphasized the gravity of the offence, highlighting Roscoe’s perverted motives and the danger he posed to children. As a result, Roscoe was sentenced to five years in prison and will be subject to lifelong registration as a sex offender.
