DOUGLAS MCDONALD'S SHOCKING PRISON ATTACK IN FORFAR REVEALED
A convicted child sex offender has faced additional punishment after committing a violent assault within the confines of Perth Prison. Douglas McDonald, who was sentenced to 12 years in 2023 for a series of disturbing assaults on two young children during the 1990s, has now seen his incarceration extended due to his latest violent act.McDonald, aged 56, was previously handed an extra 40 months in prison last year following a brutal knife attack in Forfar. Despite serving time for his past crimes, he continues to be involved in violent incidents behind bars. Recently, he was sentenced to an additional 10 months, to be served consecutively, after assaulting fellow inmate Martin Morgan.
According to court reports, on May 17, 2024, a prison officer observed Mr. Morgan holding his eye in apparent distress. When questioned about his injuries, Mr. Morgan explained that McDonald had attacked him. McDonald reportedly told the officer, “He had it coming to him,” indicating a possible motive or justification for his actions.
Further investigation through CCTV footage revealed the sequence of events. The footage showed McDonald holding a plastic cup in his left hand and approaching Mr. Morgan. Without warning, McDonald struck Mr. Morgan twice on the right side of his head. The assault resulted in Mr. Morgan sustaining a 4cm cut to his scalp, which was treated with Steri-Strips.
During the court proceedings, defense lawyer Nick Markowski stated that his client had only a limited memory of the incident. He also mentioned that McDonald had been subjected to bullying within the prison environment. As a consequence of the assault, McDonald was placed on restrictions for 28 days, which involved being confined to his cell during that period.
Witnesses described Mr. Morgan as a “hostile” individual, which may have contributed to the tensions leading up to the assault. The court ultimately decided to impose the additional 10-month sentence, emphasizing the seriousness of violence within correctional facilities and the need for accountability even among inmates with troubled histories.
