STALKER JAILED FOR CAMPAIGN OF HARASSMENT AND EMOTIONAL BLACKMAIL
A stalker has been jailed after mounting a "sinister campaign" against his former partner including calling her up to 40 times a day.Dorian Williams would continuously ring and email his ex, as well as driving past her house while loudly revving his car and blaring the horn, and showing up at her workplace.Williams, 49, was arrested and released on bail, before appearing in court and being charged in relation to the harassment.
But even these didn't stop him from continuing to stalk his ex.Prosecutor Emily Bennett told the court that Williams and the complainant had started going out in 2020.
During their relationship the defendant had tried to isolate the complainant from her friends and family, including stopping her seeing them and making negative comments about her.
Williams also exhibited controlling behaviour, including taking her car keys and phone, in an attempt to control her access to the outside world. One Christmas, the complainant was with her family when Williams messaged her asking "who are you sh*gging now?" and called her a "two-faced b**ch." The abuse turned physical when Williams grabbed her mobile phone and threw it in her face, and held her down by her wrists leaving marks. After the breakup, Williams continued the stalking by calling her up to 40 times daily, contacting her via social media and email even after she blocked his number.
He accused her of "making a fool of him" and used emotional blackmail, telling her "I'm crying every night - I love you," and claiming he hadn’t eaten for days, blaming her for it.
He also drove past her house loudly revving his car and blowing the horn, visited her workplace, and even tried contacting her son on Facebook.Williams was arrested in November last year and released, but the harassment persisted, leading to further arrests.
Despite being charged and bailed again, his campaign of stalking continued until he was arrested in February, when he told officers, "this is harassment."The court heard that Williams is "quite meek and timid" in presentation, and his barrister described him as having shown remorse, noting his guilty pleas.
However, Judge Paul Thomas KC condemned his actions, stating that Williams sought to dominate his partner's life and, when unable to cope with their breakup, embarked on a "sinister campaign" of stalking employing "emotional blackmail of staggering immaturity."A victim impact statement revealed that the emotional torment had profoundly affected her mental health, with her struggling to recognize her former self.Dorian Williams, of Bryn Salem, Felinfach, Pembrokeshire, previously pleaded guilty to engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour and stalking.
He has prior convictions for harassment and breaching a restraining order related to another victim.
His lawyer argued that his guilty pleas are a mitigating factor.
The judge sentenced Williams to 18 months in prison, with a five-year restraining order banning him from contacting his former partner.
He will serve up to half in custody before being released on license.
