A man identified as Donald Johnston has been sentenced to serve 27 months in prison after being found guilty of abusing a five-year-old girl.

The heinous acts took place over a period spanning from August 2006 to November 2007, with the offences occurring in private residences located in Castletown and Thurso, both in Caithness.

The court proceedings revealed the disturbing details of Johnston's actions, which involved lewd, indecent, and libidinous conduct directed towards the young girl.

In addition to his prison sentence, Johnston will be subject to a community supervision order lasting 45 months following his release.
