Gwent Child Sexual Abuser
Detectives have commended the remarkable bravery of the victim in a paedophile case for coming forward and giving evidence against her abuser. Gwent Police paid tribute to her after 62-year-old Donald Gordon, of High Street, Blaina, was sentenced to five years in prison at Cardiff Crown Court. Gordon was convicted by a jury of five counts of sexual assault against a child under 13, following a trial. The offenses occurred in Cwmbran between 2011 and 2016, and Gordon had denied all charges.
Detective Constable Samantha Davies, who led the investigation, stated: "Without the brave testimony of Donald Gordon's victim, we would not have been able to bring him before the courts to face justice. He refused to accept responsibility for his crimes, forcing his victim to endure the ordeal of a trial. The courage, resilience, and strength demonstrated by the victim throughout the investigation has been truly inspirational."
DC Davies further explained: "We understand how difficult it can be for victims to take the first step and speak out about the abuse they've suffered. We take all allegations of sexual assault, especially those involving children, very seriously. If a report is made to us, our officers will conduct thorough investigations."
She reassured potential victims: "There is a wide range of support available for those considering coming forward, not only from Gwent Police but also from partner agencies that can assist throughout the process. Support services are accessible for victims of both recent and historical abuse, for adults and children, regardless of gender."
Victims can report sexual abuse by calling 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
Gordon received a five-year sentence: three years in custody plus two years on extended licence. He is also required to register as a sex offender for the next five years. Additionally, he has been subject to a sexual harm prevention order until 2027.
