DILLAN MANNARN'S HORRIFIC CRIMES IN EDINBURGH: TEENAGE SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS
In a disturbing case that has shocked the city of Edinburgh, Dillan Mannarn, a 19-year-old from Granton, was sentenced to five years in prison for a series of heinous crimes involving underage victims and acts of sexual violence. The offences, which spanned over three years, included multiple instances of underage sex, rape, assault, extortion, and blackmail, all committed against vulnerable young girls he befriended through social media platforms.
During the proceedings at the High Court in Edinburgh, the presiding judge, Lord Woolman, condemned Mannarn’s actions, stating, "You preyed on vulnerable individuals.
You used violence, intimidation and extortion." The judge emphasized the profound impact these crimes had on the victims, with one victim expressing feelings of worthlessness and crying herself to sleep almost every night, while another had contemplated suicide due to the trauma inflicted upon her.
It was revealed that Mannarn had engaged in repeated underage sexual encounters, beginning with a 15-year-old girl in 2016.
His violent tendencies also surfaced during these encounters, as he was reported to have punched and slapped one victim multiple times.
Additionally, Mannarn solicited explicit images from a 14-year-old girl, threatening to publish the images on Instagram to coerce her into sending more.
One of his victims was physically assaulted, held down, spat on, slapped, choked, and raped.
Mannarn admitted to police that one victim had encouraged him to choke her harder, which caused her to lose consciousness.
After the assault, he reportedly went to the bathroom to "finish himself off." Throughout the investigation, Mannarn’s background was scrutinized, revealing a history of adverse childhood experiences, including exposure to violence.
A report prepared for the court indicated that he posed a high risk of causing further harm to others.
His criminal record includes a total of 15 convictions, encompassing rape, underage sex, assault, and extortion involving eight victims.
These offences occurred between November 2016 and June of the previous year, during which Mannarn was aged 16 to 18.
He was acquitted of seven other charges, including four allegations of rape.
During sentencing, Lord Woolman acknowledged Mannarn’s youth and immaturity, stating that these factors should be considered when determining the appropriate punishment.
The judge ordered that Mannarn be placed under supervision for an additional three years and that he would remain on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.
Mannarn, who was detained at Polmont Young Offenders’ Institution, attended the sentencing via video link.
The court’s decision underscores the severity of his crimes and the ongoing concern for the safety of potential future victims.
