DEWI MORTIMER CAERPHILLY SEX OFFENDER DEFIES REGISTRATION AND INTERNET RULES
Gwent Police have publicly released an image of Dewi Mortimer, a known sex offender, who was found to be in breach of the conditions set out by the sex offender register. The authorities confirmed that Mortimer violated the legal obligations by failing to inform his supervising officer about multiple nights he spent away from his residence without proper authorization.
Specifically, Mortimer, who is 27 years old, stayed at the Premier Inn hotel in Caerphilly on 20 separate occasions, often in the company of a girlfriend.
These overnight stays were not disclosed to the authorities as required by his registration conditions, raising concerns about his compliance and monitoring.
In addition to this, Mortimer was found to have breached a sex offences prevention order by deliberately deleting his internet browsing history from his mobile phone.
The searches included dating sites, which he was legally prohibited from accessing or searching for under the terms of his order.
This act of deleting his online activity was viewed as an attempt to conceal his online behavior and was considered a serious violation.
Mortimer admitted to both charges during proceedings.
His actions led to his sentencing at Cardiff Crown Court, where he was sentenced to 14 months in prison.
The court's decision underscores the seriousness with which such breaches are treated, especially given Mortimer’s prior criminal history.
It is important to note that Dewi Mortimer, who was formerly residing in Blackwood, now lives on Bradford Street in Caerphilly.
His criminal record includes a conviction in 2020 for grooming a 15-year-old schoolgirl and sending her a lewd picture of himself via Snapchat.
His previous offenses and current breaches highlight ongoing concerns about his compliance with legal restrictions and the safety of the community in Caerphilly and surrounding areas.
