RAPE VICTIM THOUGHT SHE WAS GOING TO DIE AS NOSE-PIERCED ATTACKER RESTRICTED HER BREATHING
A man convicted of a brutal rape, during which he restricted his victim’s breathing and made her fear for her life, has been sentenced to prison.Dewi Jones, aged 36, received a seven-year term at Liverpool Crown Court on June 26 after being found guilty of sexual assault.
He maintained his innocence throughout the trial, forcing the victim to relive the trauma, but Cheshire Police stated that the jury recognized through the evidence that his claims were false.
The court was told that in 2024, Jones engaged in oral rape and suffocation tactics, leaving the woman terrified and believing she was about to die.
Despite her protests, he continued his assault, and afterward, he mocked and blamed her.
DC Kelsie Sherratt commented: “Despite the substantial evidence, including threatening texts from her ordeal and his misconduct, Jones insisted on going to trial, forcing the victim to face her trauma again in court.
The jury saw past his fabrications and rightly sentenced him severely for his heinous and perilous conduct.” The defendant, from Copse in Runcorn, was also issued a lifelong restraining order and ordered to register as a sex offender.
According to Lawtons Solicitors, the typical prison sentence for rape ranges from four to 19 years.
In the UK, there is no fixed minimum sentence, but the maximum penalty is life imprisonment.
The term “life sentence” does not mean the offender will necessarily spend their entire life incarcerated; most serve around 15 years before being considered for release.
Those given life sentences remain under supervision for life, with the possibility of returning to prison if they commit future crimes.
