MANCHESTER MAN JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AND STALKING OF WOMAN
A sexually motivated offender considered highly dangerous targeted a solitary woman walking home after an evening out.Fortunately, a brave couple nearby, alerted by her screams, intervened and distracted the attacker, who was later seen fleeing on CCTV footage shirtless and only in one shoe.
The incident took place outside the woman’s residence when she was attacked by Dewan Gazi, aged 44, residing on Croxdale Walk in Blackley, North Manchester.
The couple, who were at their property, sprang into action upon hearing the disturbance, finding Gazi holding the woman on the pavement.
He initially claimed to be assisting her but then fled the scene.
CCTV captured Gazi chasing after him down the street.
Both the woman and the couple received bravery awards from police for their courageous actions.
Gazi was convicted after a trial of two counts of sexual assault and one count of assault under section 47.
He received a six-year prison sentence at Manchester Crown Court and was ordered to register as a sex offender indefinitely.
The assault happened on the night of July 28 last year, after Gazi had stalked and attacked the woman, whom he had previously seen in Middleton.
Reports indicate that Gazi restrained her, sexually assaulted her, and pushed her into bushes, causing injuries.
The victim, who was out with friends at the time, sustained a severe leg injury and continues to have pain and restricted movement.
Authorities praised the couple’s intervention and the victim’s resilience, emphasizing that Gazi was a predatory offender seeking sexual gratification, as described by Detective Constable Russ Clarke.
During police interviews and the trial, Gazi provided false accounts and showed no remorse.
The judge and police highlighted the ongoing danger Gazi presents to women and the serious impact on his victim.
