DERRICK ROBINS, SERIAL SEX OFFENDER FROM LONDON, REOFFENDS HOURS AFTER RELEASE

In a disturbing case highlighting the ongoing threat posed by repeat sex offenders, Derrick Robins, a man with a long history of sexual offences, was recently re-incarcerated just hours after being released from prison in London.

Robins, aged 70, has been convicted of a total of 19 different sexual crimes since 2013, demonstrating a persistent pattern of offending that authorities have struggled to curb.

On the 16th of May this year, Robins was released from a London prison facility and was scheduled to meet with his probation team in Croydon.

Prior to his release, both the British Transport Police (BTP) and the Metropolitan Police had been briefed about his release and the potential risk he posed for further criminal activity.

Despite these precautions, Robins quickly violated the conditions of his release.

Within a very short period after leaving prison, Robins breached the terms of his Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) at a McDonald's restaurant located in Denmark Hill, South London.

The SHPO is a legal measure designed to monitor and restrict the behaviour of individuals with a history of sexual offences, particularly to prevent preparatory actions that could lead to further harm.

The conditions of the order explicitly prohibit certain behaviours, including approaching or communicating with females and engaging in any sexual conduct that could cause distress.

Unaware to Robins, his inappropriate behaviour towards two young women was observed by plainclothes officers.

The officers intervened immediately, arresting Robins on the spot.

This swift action prevented any further escalation and underscored the importance of coordinated police efforts in managing high-risk offenders.

Robins’ criminal history is extensive, with recent convictions including inappropriate touching in a high street bank and sexually inappropriate conduct towards railway staff.

His pattern of offending spans several years, illustrating a troubling inability to adhere to legal restrictions and behavioural conditions.

On Friday, 19 July, Robins appeared before the Inner London Crown Court, where he was sentenced to 16 months in prison.

Additionally, he was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £160 for breaching his SHPO.

The court’s decision reflects the seriousness with which the justice system views breaches of protective orders, especially in cases involving repeat offenders.

Detective Sergeant Andy Jordan of the British Transport Police commented on the case, stating, “Robins is a serial sex offender who has a history of targeting women throughout London.

He has a pattern of pestering women, making inappropriate comments, and exposing himself to members of the public.

On 16 May, he chose to completely disregard the justice system and commit further offences.

It is entirely his fault that he is back behind bars.

Working closely with our partners at the Met Police, we have been able to ensure he is detained again – we fully support this sentence.” Robins’ SHPO, which remains in effect until April 2023, explicitly prohibits him from several activities, including traveling on London’s public transport systems without proper identification, entering railway stations unless for travel purposes, approaching or communicating with females he does not know, and engaging in any sexual behaviour that could cause harassment or distress in public settings across England and Wales.

These restrictions are designed to prevent further offending and protect the public from potential harm caused by Robins’ actions.
