KIRKCALDY CARE WORKER STRUCK OFF AFTER ASKING ‘YOUNG GIRL’ FOR ORAL SEX
Derek Normand, 44, was convicted at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court in May.A Kirkcaldy care worker has been struck off after offering to pay someone he believed to be a young girl for oral sex.
Normand asked the person, who he thought was a girl under the age of 13, to send him images of herself and to call him inappropriate names.
Normand was also convicted of sending sexually explicit messages to two other people, who he believed to be under 13 and 16 years old.
The 44-year-old was found guilty of three charges at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court in May 2025.
He was given a community payback order with three years supervision, 200 hours of unpaid work and placed on the sexual offenders register for five years.
The social care worker has now been banned from the profession by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) as a result of his conviction.
A report by the watchdog said he placed those he believed to be children at risk, indicating an attitude or values-based issue and showing disregard for the law and welfare of others.
The SSSC expressed significant concerns about him continuing to work with vulnerable people in a trusted role and stated that his behavior reflects an underlying values or attitudinal issue.
The sanction was deemed necessary and justified in the public interest to maintain trust in the social service profession.
