DEREK LAMOND FROM FIFE ESCAPES JAIL AFTER SEXUAL ASSAULT ON 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN DUNFERMLINE

2024: A man named Derek Lamond, aged 59, has been convicted and sentenced for a series of heinous sexual offenses committed over a span of more than two decades in Fife, Scotland.

His criminal activities involved targeting young girls, some as young as four years old, and subjecting them to a prolonged campaign of abuse that included rape, attempted rape, and various forms of sexual assault.

Lamond's predatory behavior began in 1995 and persisted until 2017, during which he exploited his victims at various locations within Fife and during car journeys across different parts of Scotland.

Court proceedings revealed that one of his victims was only four years old when the abuse started, and that he assaulted and raped her in a parked vehicle when she was between the ages of seven and ten.

Another girl, who was targeted from the age of seven, endured an attempted rape during an assault at a residential property.

Throughout the investigation, Lamond denied any wrongdoing, dismissing the allegations as fabricated.

When questioned by police, he stated, "I think it has all been made up." Despite his denials, Lamond was convicted last month at the High Court in Edinburgh on ten counts, which included charges of assault, rape, attempted rape, sexual assault, indecent assault, and lewd, indecent, and libidinous practices and behavior.

The impact of Lamond’s actions has had long-lasting effects on his victims, with one judge, Lord Renucci, emphasizing that the harm inflicted has continued to affect them well into adulthood.

The judge also highlighted that this was Lamond’s third conviction for sexual offenses.

Given his persistent denial and attempts to blame his victims, Lord Renucci expressed concern about the ongoing risk he poses to the community.

In sentencing, Lamond received a 15-year extended sentence, comprising 12 years of imprisonment followed by three years on license once released.

Additionally, he was placed on the sex offenders' register indefinitely.

The court’s decision underscores the severity of his crimes and the need to protect the public from further harm.

Katrina Parkes, Scotland’s procurator fiscal for high court sexual offending, commented on the case, stating, "Derek Lamond manipulated and exploited these young children in an abhorrent campaign of abuse.

His victims have shown great courage and strength by coming forward and reporting him to the authorities." Detective Constable Emma Moyes also remarked on the case, saying, "Derek Lamond will now face the consequences of his appalling and predatory behavior." The sentencing marks a significant step in delivering justice for the victims and highlighting the importance of addressing such grave offenses within the community of Fife and beyond.

In July 2017, Derek Lamond, a 51-year-old resident of Arthur Street in Dunfermline, found himself at the center of a highly distressing case involving a serious sexual assault on a young girl.

The incident took place at a private residence in Dunfermline, where Lamond, who has a prior conviction for a similar offence, sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl during a gathering.

The details of the assault revealed that Lamond not only touched the girl inappropriately but also looked inside her clothing at her breasts, actions that compounded the severity of his misconduct.

Lamond’s criminal history includes a previous conviction for a comparable sex offence in 2009, which added weight to the gravity of his latest crime.

The court proceedings in Dunfermline Sheriff Court saw Lamond appearing for sentencing, with the victim’s family present, visibly upset and demanding justice.

However, their hopes for a swift and strict punishment were dashed when they learned that Lamond had been granted permission to go on holiday, causing considerable outrage and frustration among those seeking accountability.

During the hearing, Lamond’s defence solicitor, Gwen Haggerty, argued that imposing unpaid work or a custodial sentence would pose a significant risk to Lamond’s safety.

She expressed concerns that he might become a target for retaliation from other offenders, citing incidents such as his car being spray-painted and the UK database coverage making him more vulnerable.

Haggerty stated, “The concern is he would become a target.

He’s already been targeted because of the coverage by the UK database and his car’s been spray-painted.

The other offenders would become aware of his offence.

There has already been at least one incident.” In response, Sheriff Derek Reekie acknowledged the seriousness of the offence, describing it as “very serious” and “highly unpleasant,” especially since it occurred within the girl’s own home.

He also noted Lamond’s prior conviction, emphasizing the gravity of his actions.

Despite recognizing that a custodial sentence would typically be appropriate, the sheriff expressed a belief that the community could be better protected through a community-based disposal, which would serve as a form of rehabilitation and supervision.

Ultimately, Sheriff Reekie decided against imposing a custodial sentence.

Instead, he sentenced Lamond to a community payback order with a 10-month tag, but no requirement for unpaid work.

Additionally, Lamond will remain on the sex offenders’ register for three years.

The court also considered restrictions on his liberty but opted for a community-based approach, aiming to balance punishment with public safety.

It is noteworthy that during the previous month, the victim’s family was present in court for the sentencing hearing, only to be informed that Lamond was excused from attending due to a pre-arranged holiday.

This decision further fueled their anger and disappointment, as they had traveled to see justice served.

The victim’s mother expressed her anguish, stating, “I can’t get my head around it.

I felt physically sick when I found out.

I wanted closure – my bairn wanted closure on it.

I’m fuming.” She also highlighted the emotional scars left on her daughter, who had been deeply affected by the assault but showed resilience in telling the police what happened.

In June 2017, Lamond’s decision to leave court proceedings to attend a wedding in the Channel Islands, specifically to be the best man at a friend’s wedding in Guernsey, drew widespread criticism.

The victim’s family, including her mother and aunt, expressed their outrage at the court’s decision to excuse Lamond from attending his sentencing, especially given the gravity of his offence.

They described feeling betrayed and shocked that he was allowed to prioritize personal commitments over facing justice.

The victim’s aunt remarked, “We were expecting him to be there, and when he didn’t appear it was a slap in the face.

It’s shocking.

I can’t believe the court accepted it.

He should have been there.

Instead, he’s at a wedding on Guernsey.” As the case moves forward, Lamond is scheduled to be sentenced by Sheriff Derek Reekie, who previously heard the case, on Thursday.

It has been revealed that Lamond’s legal team contacted the court to request his absence, a decision that was granted without the knowledge of the Crown Office until the day of the hearing.

The ongoing case continues to evoke strong emotions from the victim’s family and the community, highlighting the complexities and frustrations surrounding justice in such sensitive cases.
