DEREK HUTCHESON OF DUNFERMLINE SENTENCED FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE
A man from Dunfermline, 48-year-old Derek Hutcheson, inflicted over four years of domestic abuse on his partner.Evidence presented included audio recordings made by his wife, which captured his repeated acts of violence and threatening behavior.
Hutcheson claimed that he had installed cameras to monitor her, but his actions demonstrated a troubling pattern of aggression.
He was heard shouting, swearing, acting violently, insulting her appearance, and issuing numerous threats of harm, including threats to kill her and her family, as well as threatening to take her children away.
Specific incidents detailed in court included him pushing her in January of the previous year, which caused her to hit her head on a wall, and attempting to push her off the bed in March.
In June, he pushed her again, resulting in an injury, and falsely claimed to have set up cameras to record her.
The sheriff described Hutcheson as "a bully" and "a disgrace of a man," highlighting the severity of his conduct, especially considering the presence of young children.
Hutcheson admitted to engaging in an abusive pattern of behavior from February 2020 through June 2024 at his residence in Dunfermline.
As part of his sentence, he was ordered to complete a community payback order including 160 hours of unpaid work, two years of supervision, and participation in a domestic offenders’ program.
Additionally, a non-harassment order was imposed for ten years to protect his wife and children.
