Dennis Brewin

Arnold Sexual Abuser

November 2009 ‘Paedophile who raped my daughter showed no remorse’ A MUM whose daughter was raped by a paedophile says she hopes he serves every day of his 17-year sentence. Speaking after Dennis Brewin formerly of Leivers Road, Arnold, was sentenced for a catalogue of sex crimes, the mum said she now had some “closure”. She took her daughter, who cannot be identified, to Lincoln Crown Court to watch Brewin, receive his prison term. “It was still upsetting when they read the charges out,” she said. “We were pleased with the outcome. I hope he serves the 17 years. He is now on the sex offenders’ register for the rest of his life and is not allowed within 25 yards of a school, nursery or playground. “He won’t be able to do this again. He showed no remorse in the dock. He was as cool as a cucumber. “Even when he is released he will have convictions on him. “Really, his life has gone, too – and it deserves to be.” The judge told 33-year-old Brewin it was impossible to imagine the psychological effects his abuse would have on his young victims. He was found guilty after a trial earlier this year at Nottingham Crown Court of three charges of rape and two of sexual assault, and two of sexual activity involving a child. He was further found guilty of exposure and one charge of gross indecency with a youngster. He was cleared of two further charges of rape. During his trial he insisted the girls made up the claims against him, but the sentencing judge described the suggestion as “nonsense”. Judge Michael Heath said: “It is plain you made up that in a cynical attempt to discredit them.” One of Brewin’s victims was just six when she was abused. The other was subjected to a number of sex attacks and rapes when she was eight. The mum of the eight-year-old said she had no qualms about reporting the attacks to police, who were a tremendous support. She added: “I can’t thank Detective Constable Paula Staley, who led the investigation, enough and I’m grateful for all the support from my friends and family.” In mitigation, Edna Leonard told the court that she accepted Brewin posed a high risk of offending against children in the future. She said Brewin, a supervisor for a telecommunications firm, had never been in custody before and would find his sentence “difficult”. Brewin was banned indefinitely from working with children and was made the subject of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, which is designed to stop him having any contact with youngsters.
