Hull Sexual Abuser
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Hull, a 56-year-old man named Denis Dobson has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 21 years after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offenses involving young girls.

Dobson, who served as a babysitter over a span of more than a decade, was found guilty of abusing four young girls, with one victim as young as five years old at the time of the assaults. The crimes took place over an 11-year period, during which Dobson was entrusted with the care of these children by their parents. His actions only came to light when one of his victims confided in her teacher at school, prompting a police investigation that eventually uncovered the full extent of his crimes.

The case was brought before Hull Crown Court, where a jury deliberated for just 45 minutes before reaching a unanimous verdict. Dobson was convicted of two counts of rape, three counts of attempted rape, and ten sexual assaults. The presiding judge, Judge James Sampson, sentenced him to 21 years in prison, emphasizing the severity of his offenses and their impact on the victims.

Detective Sergeant Craig Nicholson, who led the investigation, described Dobson’s conduct as utterly evil. He stated, “What he did was absolutely evil. He has had no remorse and showed a complete disregard for his victims. He believed he was beyond reproach.”

Sergeant Nicholson further explained that Dobson was perceived by the children as a strict, authoritarian figure who instilled fear. “He was a stern, authoritarian figure, and the children were frightened of him. He shouted at them and threatened violence if they told anyone about what was happening,” he said.

The police were called in after one girl broke down and disclosed the abuse to her teacher. This revelation prompted a thorough investigation, which uncovered additional victims. Throughout the police interviews, Dobson maintained his innocence, repeatedly answering “no comment” to questions posed by officers.

Following his conviction, Sergeant Nicholson praised the bravery of the young girls who endured the ordeal. “He subjected four young girls to a horrific experience over a lengthy investigation,” he said. “They are relieved that it is finally over and can now begin to move on with their lives. It’s likely to be a long road to recovery, and we cannot yet fully understand the long-term effects of what they have suffered. Their courage in giving evidence was truly commendable.”

Dobson, who resides on Glebe Road in east Hull, had been unemployed for eight years and was claiming disability benefits for a back injury and diabetes at the time of his arrest. As part of his sentence, he has been ordered to register as a sex offender for life. Sergeant Nicholson highlighted that the 21-year prison term reflects the gravity of his crimes and the profound impact they will have on the victims. “This sentence sends a clear message about the seriousness with which the justice system treats such offenses,” he concluded.
