2011: OLDBURY EX-BOYFRIEND JAILED AFTER HAVING A NEW YEAR'S EVE TO FORGET
A former partner of Delroy Hammond from Oldbury has been sentenced to 22 months in jail after assaulting her following a New Year’s Eve theft.Hammond, 44, stole a computer used by a disc jockey during celebrations at a public house in West Bromwich, as reported by prosecutor Mr.
Howard Searle.
He said that Alexander Williams and Kim Hogan had finished their work shift and were waiting for a taxi when Hammond got involved.
According to Mr.
Searle at Wolverhampton Crown Court, although they had booked a taxi, Hammond insisted it was his, and during an argument, he pushed Miss Hogan, causing her and Mr.
Williams to fall.
Hammond then grabbed the computer and ran away.
He was arrested shortly afterward hiding in a doorway, and after being charged, was released on bail but failed to attend his court hearing.
While he was free, Hammond encountered Janet Dillon, his former partner, only a few weeks after their three-year on-again, off-again relationship had ended.
He accused her of cheating, dragged her, and hit her in the face.
Judge John Warner pointed out the robbery was a “very unpleasant” event, and the assault on Miss Dillon was particularly serious due to her vulnerable position at the time.
Hammond admitted to charges of theft, assault causing actual bodily harm, simple assault on Miss Dillon, and damage to a mobile phone.
Defense lawyer Miss Sally Cairns explained Hammond had been drinking throughout the day and New Year’s Eve and believed the taxi was his property.
She emphasized that the theft was opportunistic and unplanned rather than premeditated, and highlighted that Hammond is a father of three children, acting impulsively in the incident.
