Aberdeen Rapist
A young man from Aberdeen, Declan Morrison, has been found guilty of heinous crimes involving the sexual assault of two children, including a rape that occurred when he was only 12 years old. The conviction was reached after a High Court trial in Aberdeen, where a jury of the majority found Morrison responsible for multiple serious offenses.

According to court proceedings, Morrison, now aged 18, was convicted of raping one young victim at a play park located in Sheddocksley in 2015. Both the victim and Morrison were 12 years old at the time of the assault. The jury also found him guilty of attempting to rape an eight-year-old boy during the same year. These disturbing incidents took place in familiar local settings, highlighting Morrison’s opportunistic targeting of vulnerable children in his community.

Throughout the trial, Morrison maintained his innocence, pleading not guilty to all charges. However, the evidence presented was compelling enough to secure a conviction. As a result of the verdict, Morrison will now be registered as a sex offender, a measure that will impose restrictions and monitoring for the foreseeable future.

During testimony on Wednesday, one of Morrison’s victims, who is now also 18, recounted the traumatic experience of the assault. He described how he screamed for Morrison to stop during the attack, which took place on a climbing frame during a night between Christmas and New Year in 2015. The emotional testimony shed light on the brutality of the assault and the lasting impact it had on the victim.

A second witness, who was only eight years old at the time, also came forward. He reported feeling haunted by the memory of Morrison’s attempt to assault him on an old mattress. The young boy described how the image of the mattress would often appear in his mind whenever he closed his eyes, illustrating the deep psychological scars left by the incident.

Prosecutor Geoffrey Mitchell QC described Morrison as an “opportunistic predator” who targeted children in familiar local environments. He pointed out that both incidents shared similar characteristics, with Morrison attacking children in a local play area and a makeshift den where children played. The prosecutor highlighted the manipulative tactics Morrison used, including telling the eight-year-old boy that he wanted to teach him “how to do sex,” and asking the 12-year-old if he wanted to “do things that people think is gay but isn’t gay.”

Mitchell emphasized that these acts appeared to be part of a systematic pattern of pursuit, indicating a calculated approach to exploiting vulnerable children. Morrison’s conduct was described as calculated and predatory, with the crimes characterized as opportunistic and driven by a desire to prey on young victims in his community.

During the trial, Morrison took the stand and admitted to being a ‘bully,’ but he vehemently denied the allegations of rape. When questioned about whether he had committed a rape at age 12, he responded, “No, definitely not.” Despite his denial, the jury unanimously found him guilty on both counts of rape and attempted rape.

Judge Lord Richardson, who presided over the case, acknowledged the jury’s verdict and noted that Morrison has no prior criminal record. The judge deferred sentencing until December to allow for further social work reports. Morrison was also officially placed on the sex offenders register. It was noted that Morrison no longer resides at his previous address, Rorie Court in Aberdeen, indicating a possible change of residence following the case.
