Huntingdon Child Sexual Abuser
A man accused of heinous sexual offenses against young children spanning over a decade has been sentenced to more than 21 years in prison. Dean Nicholson, aged 56, from Station Road in Abbots Ripton, Huntingdon, was found guilty of a series of horrifying crimes committed between the years 1992 and 2004 within Huntingdonshire.

The criminal acts involved Nicholson targeting children known to him, beginning when he was just 26 years old. Among his victims was a child as young as six, with others being slightly older, but all under the age of 16. The nature of his offenses was particularly disturbing, as he often engaged in sexual acts by coercing his victims to perform them on him, or by performing sexual acts on them himself. These abuses went unreported for many years, only coming to light after the victims confided in trusted individuals close to them, revealing the extent of Nicholson’s misconduct.

Following the discovery of these offenses, Nicholson was swiftly arrested. Authorities charged him with a total of 22 counts related to the abuse, which led to a courtroom trial at Cambridge Crown Court scheduled in November. During the trial, Nicholson chose to enter a guilty plea on the fourth day, admitting to 15 of the charges against him. These included five counts of gross indecency with a child and eight counts of indecent assault. In addition, Nicholson also confessed to assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH) against another adult victim in 1991, further highlighting his pattern of predatory behavior.

The court proceedings culminated on Friday, December 16, when Judge Philip Grey sentenced Nicholson. He received a custodial sentence of 21 years and seven months, reflecting the gravity of his crimes. Furthermore, the judge imposed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) to remain in effect, a measure designed to closely monitor Nicholson’s actions and prevent further offenses.

During the sentencing, Judge Grey emphasized the impact of Nicholson’s actions, noting that by the time he pleaded guilty, testimony from two victims had already been heard in court. The judge expressed that the voices of all his victims were “heard loud and clear,” and paid tribute to their bravery in coming forward and revealing their experiences. The judge described Nicholson as a “predatory paedophile” who systematically groomed and sexually exploited his victims over many years. While Nicholson did not explicitly admit to the full extent of the harm caused, Judge Grey acknowledged the “horrific damage” inflicted upon many individuals as a result of Nicholson’s “perverted desire for sexual activity.” His actions have left a lasting impact on those affected, and his punishment reflects the seriousness of his crimes.
