May 2019 Man sentenced for indecent images A Frenchay man has been criticised for gross negligence after accidentally downloading a indecent picture of a child. Dean Marks, 62, of Frenchay Park Road, was given a community order in Bristol Crown Court today (May 10) having previously pleaded guilty to making indecent photos of a child. The offending image was found among thousands of pornographic images on Marks’ laptop when police were investigating other matters in March 2017. Branding Marks “grossly negligent”, Judge Horton said: “You pleaded guilty in this case to what amounts to downloading pornography from a website that produces adult pornography – which is not illegal – and you have had to plead guilty and it’s a cautionary tale to people who download this material without having enough care.” For downloading the Category C image on December 21, 2016, Marks was handed down a community order involving 20 hours’ unpaid work, to be completed within a year, and told to pay £85.
