Royston Sexual Abuser
In a case that has shocked the local community, Dean Mallinder, a 47-year-old resident of Grange Road in Royston, has pleaded guilty to serious charges involving indecent images. The charges stem from incidents that took place in August 2018, when Mallinder was found to have been in possession of explicit material that included both a child and an extreme pornographic image involving an animal.

Specifically, on August 14, 2018, Mallinder was charged with creating and possessing a category C indecent image of a child. Category C is considered the least severe classification of child pornography, but the nature of the offense remains grave. Just two days after this initial charge, authorities also accused him of possessing an extreme pornographic image depicting a person engaging in sexual acts with a dog. These allegations highlight the disturbing nature of the material involved and the severity of the case.

The case was brought before magistrates in Barnsley, where it was heard on a recent Wednesday. During the proceedings, the court decided to adjourn the case to allow the Probation Service sufficient time to prepare a comprehensive pre-sentence report. This report will likely influence the sentencing decision and provide insight into Mallinder’s background and potential risk factors.

Following the hearing, Mallinder was released on unconditional bail, meaning he was not required to post any bond or security at that time. He is scheduled to return to Barnsley Magistrates’ Court on November 27 for further proceedings. Additionally, as part of the legal requirements following his guilty plea, Mallinder was ordered to register his name on the sex offenders register within three days of the hearing, a measure designed to monitor and manage his potential risk to the community moving forward.
