DEAN KENNEDY JAILED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN MANCHESTER
In a case that has shocked the Manchester community, Dean Andrew Kennedy, aged 55, from Shiredale Drive, Manchester, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being found guilty of multiple sexual offences committed against two separate children over a span of nearly two decades.Kennedy's first known victim was a young girl, just five years old at the time, whom he sexually abused over a period of approximately one year, from January 1992 to January 1993.
The abuse inflicted upon this child was particularly disturbing given her tender age and the duration of the assault.
More than fourteen years later, Kennedy committed further heinous acts against a second child, this time a girl aged between 13 and 16 years old.
The abuse of this second victim occurred over a four-year period, from March 2007 to March 2011.
Despite the victims being unrelated, both endured similar forms of sexual abuse at the hands of Kennedy, highlighting a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior.
Throughout the investigation, authorities worked in close cooperation with Greater Manchester Police.
Their diligent efforts, combined with the strong evidence gathered, enabled the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to build a compelling case against Kennedy.
From the outset, Kennedy denied all allegations, choosing to contest the charges in court.
The trial was held at the Hilton Nightingale Court but was later transferred to Manchester Crown Court at Crown Square at the start of the defence case.
After an intense eight-day trial, the jury returned a verdict on October 13, 2021, finding Kennedy guilty of 11 sexual offences.
Following his conviction, Kennedy was sentenced on November 21, 2021, to serve nine years in prison for his crimes.
In addition to the custodial sentence, the court also granted a sexual harm prevention order, aimed at protecting the community from any potential future offences by Kennedy.
This case underscores the importance of vigilant law enforcement and judicial processes in bringing justice to victims of sexual abuse, especially in cases involving vulnerable children.
The community of Manchester can now find some measure of relief knowing that Kennedy is behind bars, unable to harm others.
