2013: OLDBURY MAN JAILED FOR DRUNKEN ASSAULT ON VULNERABLE GIRLFRIEND
Dean Hickinbottom, aged 40 from Oldbury, received a ten-month prison term after a violent episode involving alcohol. He assaulted his wife, who was gravely ill with medical conditions, in a prolonged and aggressive attack and threatened to remove her kidney dialysis machine from her back.
The presiding judge, Robin Onions, pointed out her serious health issues and stated that Hickinbottom had disregarded her well-being during the incident.
It was also noted he had previous convictions related to domestic violence and had caused her significant injuries.
Hickinbottom, who lives on Wallace Road, entered a guilty plea for causing actual bodily harm while intoxicated.
His defense attorney, Mr.
Ekwall Tiwane, described him as an alcoholic for many years suffering from seizures and memory loss, and said he had been drinking heavily every day.
At Wolverhampton Crown Court, it was revealed that Hickinbottom’s relationship had ended, he had a new partner, and was seeking to address his alcohol issues.
His lawyer mentioned that his drinking exacerbates his temper, and the relationship was described as volatile with problems on both sides.
The prosecutor, Miss Amrisha Parathalingam, recounted a specific incident where Hickinbottom refused to give his keys when his partner tried to lock up.
She later attempted to retrieve the keys from his pocket after he had gone to bed but was pushed, causing her to fall and damage a clothes rail.
He then hit her repeatedly with the rail, resulting in severe bruising.
The judge condemned the assault as very unpleasant and highlighted that using a weapon in such an attack is unacceptable.
