DEAN CLAYTON SHOCKINGLY ESCAPES JAIL AFTER BEING FOUND WITH HUNDREDS OF CHILD SEXUAL IMAGES IN BASINGSTOKE AND WINCHESTER

A man from Basingstoke, identified as Dean Richard John Clayton, narrowly avoided being sent to prison after authorities uncovered a disturbing collection of indecent images depicting children on multiple electronic devices found at his residence.

The police seized a computer, two smartphones, and a USB stick from Clayton’s home located in Daneshill Court, Lychpit.

Although investigators were unable to access the USB stick because Clayton claimed he obtained it from a gym and did not possess the password, they did find numerous illicit images of children, including some as young as four years old, on the other devices.

The case was brought before Winchester Crown Court, where Clayton appeared for sentencing on Monday, September 5.

Prosecutor Matthew Lawson detailed the findings, stating, "The computer and the two smartphones contained indecent images of children, some of which were moving images." He further explained that there was a password protected on the USB stick, which authorities could not bypass.

Clayton's former girlfriend told police that the defendant had warned her that if law enforcement gained access to the contents of the USB stick, his life would be over.

Clayton, however, maintained that he did not have the password and insisted that he had obtained the USB stick from a gym.

Additionally, officers discovered an application on Clayton’s smartphone that mimicked a calculator but was in fact a hidden spy app protected by a password.

Inside this app, indecent images were stored covertly.

At an earlier hearing, Clayton entered a guilty plea to three counts of making indecent images of children, with the images dated from December 2013 to November 2019.

The charges included possession of 51 Category A images, 57 Category B images, and 448 Category C images.

He also denied possessing four extreme pornographic images between July 24, 2016, and August 28, 2019, along with 66 prohibited images of children between August 28, 2019, and November 3, 2019.

Clayton's case was complicated by his decision to proceed with sentencing despite being unrepresented due to ongoing barrister strikes.

He was given the opportunity to consult with his solicitor about a pre-sentencing report but chose to move forward without legal counsel.

Judge Susan Evans addressed the court, emphasizing that Clayton's denial of the offences caused significant delays in the case.

She expressed her horror at the nature of the images, noting, "It is awful that there were images of children as young as four years and upwards.

These are real children who are suffering real abuse.

They suffer serious psychological and physical injuries.

People like you are a market for it." Despite the severity of the charges, the judge acknowledged that Clayton appeared to be making efforts to change.

She observed that he had lost his previous job due to the case but had since begun working again.

Clayton was also reported to be trying to improve his lifestyle by staying away from substances.

Taking all factors into account, Judge Evans sentenced Clayton to a community order lasting 24 months, imposed a fine of £1,500, and restricted him with a sexual harm prevention order for five years.

As part of his rehabilitation, Clayton is required to complete 30 days of counseling and undertake 120 hours of unpaid community service.
