DEAN BROWN OF HASLEMERE SENTENCED FOR VIOLENT ABUSE IN CHICHESTER

In a case that has shocked the local community, Dean Brown, a 36-year-old man from Haslemere, was sentenced to serve time in prison following a series of violent and abusive incidents directed at his former partner. The court proceedings revealed a disturbing pattern of behavior that spanned over three years, during which Brown subjected his ex-partner, a woman in her 30s from Chichester, to relentless emotional and physical abuse.

Brown’s abusive conduct began in July 2022 and continued into early 2023, with the victim enduring a series of aggressive outbursts and assaults. The court heard that Brown’s violence escalated to threatening her while she was pregnant with their child, with him ominously warning, “I’ll kick it out of you.” This threat underscored the dangerous environment she was forced to endure during her pregnancy.

Further incidents included a brutal assault in November 2022, just after the birth of their baby, where Brown physically attacked her while she was holding the newborn. The court was also informed of a particularly alarming event in January 2023, when Brown threw a knife at the victim. Fortunately, the knife narrowly missed her, but it caused damage to a nearby wall and was part of a series of destructive acts Brown committed in their shared home.

Following his arrest, Brown faced multiple charges, including two counts of causing actual bodily harm, three counts of criminal damage, and two counts of assault. He pleaded guilty to all charges on April 11 at Worthing Magistrates’ Court, acknowledging the severity of his actions.

On Friday, August 4, at Portsmouth Crown Court, Brown was sentenced to 16 months in prison. In addition to his incarceration, the court imposed a 10-year restraining order to prevent any contact with his former partner, aiming to protect her from further harm. This case highlights the ongoing issue of domestic abuse and the importance of legal measures to safeguard victims from their abusers.
