DAVID WRENNALL JAILED IN TRURO FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON VULNERABLE TEENAGER
David Wrennall, 44, has been sentenced to prison for sexually assaulting a severely intoxicated 16-year-old girl and performing acts of a sexual nature in her presence.Wrennall, formerly from Goonhavern and now residing in Lancashire, appeared at Truro Crown Court to receive his sentence after pleading guilty to three counts of sexual assault.
Prosecutor Heather Hope revealed that Wrennall had supplied alcohol to young people during the event.
She explained that the victim, who rarely drinks, consumed a can of cider and possibly some rum, after which her memory becomes hazy.
She felt unwell, vomited, and Wrennall placed her in the back of a car.
Witnesses were concerned about his actions in moving her into the vehicle.
Wrennall then left her unattended before returning, during which he touched her breast; he left again, then came back to touch her pubic area over her underwear.
He eventually returned a final time and proceeded to sexually gratify himself, ejaculating over her face and hair.
Miss Hope stated, "She was aware to some extent and tried to push him away but was in no fit state to resist." The victim suffered a panic attack after Wrennall covered her mouth, increasing her fear and causing her to pass out.
She was eventually taken home, and police were called.
Wrennall fully admitted his actions during police interviews, and it was noted that the emotional impact on the victim has been profound and life-altering.
Representing Wrennall, lawyer Rupert Taylor expressed that he had made full admissions early on and issued an unreserved apology.
The court was informed that Wrennall's wife left him as a consequence of the incident, and he now lives alone in northern England.
Judge Simon Carr addressed the court, stating, "Wrennall would have been aware of how ill the victim was, yet he chose to put her in the car to hide his actions, possibly because he didn't want his wife to find out he provided alcohol to minors." The judge noted that the victim's memory was limited, describing her as being 'in and out of consciousness,' which should have been obvious to Wrennall.
He further commented on Wrennall's behavior, concluding that the breaks between offenses appeared to be attempts to avoid detection, and that he continued manipulating the situation for his own sexual gratification.
Judge Carr emphasized that Wrennall exploited a highly vulnerable young person and sentenced him to two years in prison.
Additionally, Wrennall is required to register as a sex offender.
