ST NEOTS MAN GETS 5-YEAR SEX OFFENDERS REGISTER FOR TEXTING GIRL, 13
A 40-year-old man from St Neots has been put on the sex offenders register for five years after sending upsetting and disgusting text messages to a 13-year-old girl.
Norwich Crown Court was told David Wagstaff, of Barford Road, Eynesbury, made contact with the girl, after accidentally dialling a wrong number.
The pair exchanged numerous text messages, and Wagstaff even spoke to the girl on Christmas Day 2005 and asked her to send him a photograph of herself.
Lori Tucker, prosecuting, said the contact between Wagstaff and the girl came to light when the youngster asked her mother to post a parcel addressed to Wagstaff.
It contained an explicit photograph and letter from the girl.
Wagstaff sent also text messages to the girl, saying "I love you all over" and "text me so we can be together".
He also tried to persuade the girl to visit his home, but she declined.
He was arrested on February 23 and interviewed in Huntingdon.
The court heard Wagstaff claimed he thought the girl was 15 years old.
On Friday he admitted inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity between November 30 of last year and January 1, 2006.
The court was told Wagstaff had previous convictions for harassment, having sent threatening and abusive text messages.
Judge Alasdair Darroch told Wagstaff: "This is a very young girl to be involved with, and it was very upsetting and disgusting correspondence you had with her." As well as placing Wagstaff on the sex offenders register, Judge Darroch gave him a three year supervision order, and said he should attend a sex offenders programme.
