Ramsgate Sexual Abuser
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Ramsgate, David Turner, a 72-year-old former school governor and church warden, has been sentenced to prison for a series of heinous crimes involving child exploitation and illegal importation of adult-sized child sex dolls.

Turner’s criminal activities came to light after authorities intercepted a suspicious package at Stansted Airport in Essex, labeled ‘mannequin’. The package contained a child-sized sex doll wrapped in a fishnet body-stocking, which Turner had attempted to import from China. This incident marked the beginning of a detailed investigation into his activities.

Following the discovery, Turner sought to challenge the legality of his actions, asking a judge at Canterbury Crown Court to determine whether his possession and importation of the doll were considered indecent or obscene under the law. In a landmark ruling, Judge Simon James confirmed that such acts were indeed unlawful, setting a significant legal precedent.

Turner had already imported two similar dolls, which he kept in his study, and had purchased clothing for the latest model, a 3ft 10in figure. His obsession extended beyond the dolls, as police investigations revealed a vast collection of illegal images and videos depicting child abuse. His computer contained an alarming total of 138 Category A images, the most severe classification, along with 299 Category B images and an astonishing 33,619 Category C images. The children depicted ranged in age from approximately three to 16 years old.

Authorities also uncovered that Turner had searched online for terms such as “flat chest love doll” and “mini silicone sex doll 65cms little breasts,” indicating a disturbing interest in child-like figures. Additionally, 29 fictional stories describing sexual abuse of children were found on his devices, although these did not fall under the Obscene Publications Act.

Turner’s criminal record was further compounded by his admission during police interviews that he preferred to view images of children aged four to ten. He also confessed to secretly photographing girls aged six to 11 in public places, revealing a pattern of predatory behavior.

He was arrested by officers from the National Crime Agency in November of the previous year. Following his arrest, Turner resigned from his positions as a school governor at St Ethelbert’s Church Primary School and as a church warden at both St Ethelbert’s and Gertrude Church in Margate.

At Canterbury Crown Court on September 8, Turner pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including importing a child sex doll, possessing indecent images of children, creating such images, and possessing extreme pornographic material. He was sentenced to a total of 16 months in prison, with eight months for the importation of the doll and eight months for the other offenses. His case is among the first of its kind in the country, highlighting the growing concern over the illegal importation and possession of child exploitation materials and objects.

Turner’s case underscores the increasing prevalence of these disturbing crimes and the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat them, especially as the importation of such items continues to pose a significant challenge to authorities across the UK.
