KEITH MAN CONVICTED FOR POSSESSING CHILD ABUSE VIDEOS INCLUDING NEWBORNS
A man has been convicted of downloading hundreds of indecent videos of children, including some featuring newborn babies.David Small, aged 25, was found guilty of possessing more than 33 hours of child abuse footage hidden in a secret app on his Samsung Galaxy phone after a trial at Aberdeen Sheriff Court.
The jury heard that Small was caught with over 750 videos and about 80 images of children.
Some children featured in the material were as young as three months old.
He was also found with extreme pornography depicting a woman engaged in bestiality with a dog.
The trial revealed that Small had used the messaging app Kik to communicate with others about the content and used a file-sharing site to download it.
Jurors saw a police interview where Small admitted to possessing indecent images of children and 'sexual abuse' content, claiming he was seeking images of teenagers, and had only used the file-sharing site for 6 or 7 months.
He moved the files to a locked, passcode-protected secure folder.
Following his conviction on three charges, Sheriff Andrew Miller recognized the seriousness of the crimes and ordered Small to be placed on the sex offenders register.
The sheriff also deferred sentence until next month for further assessments, including his suitability for a sex offenders programme.
During the sentencing, it was emphasized that these offences contribute to the demand for such child abuse content worldwide, and the nature of the crimes was described as 'very serious' by the sheriff.
Small was also warned that his actions were for his own gratification and that he had taken steps to secure the material solely accessible to himself.
The case highlights the ongoing issues of child abuse material being circulated online, and Small's deliberate actions to download and store such content have led to the conviction and future legal consequences.
