CAERPHILLY TEACHER ASKED ‘GIRLS, 12’ TO PERFORM SEX ACTS
A teacher contacted two girls, each 12 years old, online and asked them to perform individual sexual acts.David Skillern, aged 60 and formerly from Maesycwmmer near Blackwood in Caerphilly county, inquired if he could be one girl’s boyfriend and "older lover." He also told the other girl that he wanted to kiss her all over before performing oral sex.
However, there were no real victims involved, as the entire situation was a police sting carried out by undercover officers.
Prosecutor Alex Orndal stated: “The defendant told the girl that he wanted to be her close friend.
He suggested he could be her boyfriend – her older lover.” He asked her, “Are your boobs growing?
Do you have hair on your p****?” and then requested she rub her p****.
When officers arrived to arrest Skillern at his home, he responded: “I will lose my job.
I will lose everything.” Child abuse images were found on his mobile phone.
It was reported that he has since lost his job and his wife is divorcing him, as heard in Cardiff Crown Court.
Skillern admitted to attempting to communicate sexually with a child and to producing indecent images of a child.
He had no prior convictions.
Gareth Williams, his solicitor, stated: “This has caused devastation.
The defendant has been humiliated and his life has been turned upside down.” Emphasizing his client’s good character in the past, the solicitor added: “There is a real possibility of rehabilitation.” Judge Recorder Ben Clarke told Skillern that his prison sentence would be suspended.
Now residing at Ysgwyddgwyn, Deri, Caerphilly, Skillern was sentenced to 16 months in prison, suspended for two years.
He is also ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work and a 30-day rehabilitation program.
Additionally, he must register as a sex offender and will be subject to a 10-year sexual harm prevention order.
He is required to pay £500 towards prosecution costs and a £187 victim surcharge.
