DAVID SHIPWAY FROM WILTSHIRE ARRESTED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENSES IN SWINDON
In a serious case that has shocked the local community, 20-year-old David Shipway, a resident of Ladyfield Road in Wiltshire, faced charges related to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a minor and inciting a child to participate in non-penetrative sexual acts. The incident came to light during a police operation involving paedophile hunters, who attended Shipway's residence in Swindon and made the arrest.
According to reports presented at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, January 17, Shipway was caught in conversations with an individual who was posing as a 14-year-old girl online.
During these exchanges, he used sexually explicit language and explicitly asked her to share nude photographs.
In a further breach of conduct, he also sent a photograph of his genitals to the supposed minor.
Prosecutor Kate Prince described the case as falling into the category 1A classification, which is considered among the most serious types of sexual offenses involving minors.
She emphasized the gravity of the charges and recommended that the case be transferred to the Crown Court for sentencing proceedings.
Defense lawyer Mark Glendenning highlighted that his client is suffering from mental health issues and struggles with distinguishing appropriate from inappropriate behavior.
He requested a pre-sentence report to better understand Shipway’s mental state and circumstances.
Following the hearing, the court ordered the pre-sentence report and decided to send the case to Swindon Crown Court for sentencing scheduled for February 16.
Meanwhile, Shipway was granted unconditional bail, allowing him to remain free until the sentencing date.
Additionally, Shipway was instructed to register as a sex offender within 72 hours.
The length of his registration period will be determined based on the sentence handed down next month, underscoring the serious nature of the charges and the potential consequences he faces.
