DAVID SCULTHORPE OF WIGAN RECEIVES SUSPENDED SENTENCE FOR SEX OFFENCE
In November 2017, a man from Wigan received a suspended prison sentence after a conviction for performing a sexual act in front of a young girl.
David Sculthorpe, who used to reside in the Worsley Mesnes area, committed the offence when he believed the girl, who was 13 at the time, was asleep in her bed—though she was not.
Sculthorpe, aged 57, appeared at Bolton Crown Court for sentencing after pleading guilty to sexually touching the girl during a period between July 2004 and July 2005.
Judge Richard Gioserano sentenced him to 16 months in prison, suspended for two years.
Additionally, Sculthorpe was ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years, and a restraining order was issued preventing him from contact with the victim for the next five years.
An earlier hearing at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates Court, where prosecutor Steve Woodman highlighted the lasting impact of Sculthorpe's actions on the victim, revealed that Sculthorpe had been living in temporary accommodation under bail conditions that prohibited approaching an address in Worsley Mesnes or contacting individuals under 16.
At that time, he was on bail awaiting his court appearance.
