ALTRINCHAM MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL MURDER OF LOVER IN CHESHIRE
A man named David Ryan, aged 48 and from Byrom Street in Altrincham, was convicted of murdering his partner, Diana Lee, who was 54.The court proceedings revealed that Ryan murdered Lee and then deliberately set her house on fire at Cranage, Cheshire, to cover up the crime.
The judge described his conduct as extremely brutal and sadistic, noting that Ryan struck Lee with a bludgeoning instrument and mutilated her body in a disturbing manner.
He also attempted to destroy evidence by igniting four separate fires around her residence.
It was also disclosed that Ryan had previously tricked Lee into giving him money and had defrauded her of £60,000 to settle his debts.
Sentencing, Mr.
Justice Richard Henriques handed Ryan a life sentence with a minimum term of 34 years, emphasizing the savage and horrific nature of his offense.
The conviction included charges of murder and mutilation, with the court rejecting claims by the defense that the act was impulsive, ruling instead that it was premeditated.
Additionally, the court described how Ryan tried to falsely implicate Lee’s lodger, Andrew Leese, by planting her blood-stained underwear and soaking an antique German dagger in her blood.
The judge stated that Ryan believed he had executed a perfect murder but failed to entirely destroy the evidence, which remained in the garage fire due to oxygen deficiency.
The case was portrayed as reminiscent of a horror film, with Ryan’s attack described as calculating and cruel.
Lee was depicted as a well-loved, kind, and positive woman, whose family was deeply grieving her loss.
The court pointed out that Ryan’s motive was to prevent the discovery of his financial deceit, and he was found responsible for a gruesome and tragic murder.
