A man identified as David Rose, who committed a disturbing sexual assault at Birmingham New Street station, has been sentenced to prison. The incident, described by authorities as 'traumatising,' took place when Rose approached a 19-year-old woman sitting alone on a bench outside the station's customer reception area.
According to reports from the British Transport Police, Rose initiated a conversation with the young woman, which quickly escalated into a sexual assault. The victim, overwhelmed and distressed, sought assistance from station staff. Recognizing her distress, the staff moved her into the station's reception area for safety and support.
However, Rose did not leave her side. He followed her into the reception area and sat next to her once again, causing further alarm. It was only when he eventually left the waiting area that the woman, summoning her courage, disclosed what had happened to the station staff. The staff promptly contacted the British Transport Police.
Officers arrived at the scene and located Rose sitting in the waiting room. He was immediately detained and taken into custody. The investigation revealed that Rose, who resides on Langsdale Street in Liverpool, was responsible for two counts of sexual assault. His trial at Birmingham Crown Court lasted a week and concluded on Friday, March 28.
Following the trial, Rose, aged 34, was found guilty of the charges and received a sentence of 18 months in prison. Additionally, he was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £187. The case highlights the serious consequences of such criminal behavior and the importance of vigilance in public spaces.
Detective Constable Aaron Murdoch, the officer leading the investigation, commented on the case: “This was a traumatising incident for the victim, who was preyed upon by Rose.
