CAREFULLY CAERPHILLY PAEDOPHILE DAVID ROBB SENTENCED AFTER PREDATORY BEHAVIOR TOWARD CHILDREN
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Caerphilly, David Robb, an 82-year-old former football coach, has been convicted of engaging in predatory and sexualized conduct involving minors. The offences came to light after Robb, who resides on Edward Street in Cwmcarn, was found to have communicated inappropriately with young boys online, revealing a troubling pattern of behavior that spanned several years.
Robb's criminal activities included sending an indecent image of another boy, who was exposing his buttocks, to a 12-year-old boy known as 'Mario.' During their online exchanges, Robb told Mario that he found him 'gorgeous' and expressed a desire to have sex with him, explicitly stating, 'I’d love to have sex with you.' These conversations took place between August and September of the previous year, highlighting a disturbing willingness to pursue sexual contact with a minor.
Further compounding his offenses, Robb also engaged in sexualized chats with a 14-year-old boy named 'Luca,' demonstrating a pattern of grooming and exploitation of vulnerable youths.
The police investigation revealed that Robb had used a tablet and a mobile phone to facilitate these illicit communications.
When authorities visited his home during a supervised visit, they discovered that Robb had concealed these devices from them.
Moreover, he employed software designed to 'self-destruct' his browsing history within 24 hours of the police search, a clear breach of the conditions set by his sexual harm prevention order.
Prosecutor Nil Strobl told Cardiff Crown Court that Robb's actions were deeply concerning, emphasizing that the defendant had admitted to communicating with 'Mario' and had openly expressed his sexual preferences for boys aged 12 or 13.
The court heard that Robb's history of sexual offenses against children was extensive.
In 1976, he received a suspended prison sentence after being convicted of sexually assaulting a girl.
Later, in 1990, he was convicted while managing a children's football team, having persuaded a young boy to sleep in the same bed with him before an attempted sexual act.
Robb's criminal record also includes a 2015 conviction for possession of an indecent image of a child, which underscores a long-standing pattern of offending.
Despite these prior convictions, he continued to offend, culminating in the recent charges that led to his current sentencing.
During the court proceedings, Laurence Jones, representing Robb, acknowledged the gravity of the situation.
He stated that Robb was aware he faced a lengthy prison sentence and recognized the possibility that he might never leave prison alive.
The court was also informed that Robb's wife had passed away while he was remanded in custody, adding a personal dimension to his circumstances.
Mr.
Jones suggested that Robb's past feelings of sexual attraction to young boys had been suppressed by his responsibilities as a father, his work, and his care for his wife.
Ultimately, the court sentenced David Robb to 45 months in prison.
Additionally, he was placed under a 10-year sexual harm prevention order, requiring him to register as a sex offender until 2034.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat posed by individuals with a history of sexual offenses against children and the importance of vigilant law enforcement and community awareness in protecting vulnerable minors.
