DAVID REYNOLDS AND ALARMING BREACHES IN SOMERSET
A man from Yeovil, Somerset, identified as David Reynolds, has been sentenced to prison for multiple violations of a court-mandated order designed to prevent him from making contact with children.Reynolds, aged 35, deliberately deceived others by falsifying his identity and background in order to establish a relationship with a family that had children.
Reynolds’ actions demonstrated an alarming pattern of behavior, particularly as he became 'obsessed' with one young member of the family.
He would frequently visit the family’s home and purchase gifts for the children, actions that, while not directly proving sexual misconduct, significantly breached the conditions of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order previously issued by the court.
This order was initially imposed following a conviction Reynolds received in 2014.
The breaches for which Reynolds was found guilty included several inappropriate incidents, such as having his photograph taken with children at an animal centre, an activity that further demonstrated his disregard for the restrictions placed upon him.
Reynolds, who resides on Goldcroft in Yeovil, admitted to a series of violations and was subsequently handed a sentence of three years and nine months in prison during proceedings held at Taunton Crown Court.
Judge Paul Cook emphasized that the criminal conduct began approximately a month or so after Reynolds had served the suspension period connected to a previous breach.
The court heard that Reynolds had actively befriended a local family, providing lies about his identity and fabricating details about his circumstances, background, and prospects, effectively creating a false persona.
Throughout this period, Reynolds made regular visits to see the child and engaged in actions such as buying gifts, which the judge described as predatory.
He also pointed out that Reynolds had used his time in custody since his arrest to reflect on his behavior, although this did not mitigate the seriousness of his actions.
In delivering the sentence, Judge Cook stated, 'This was a very serious and persistent breach against a backdrop of you lying about your name and identity.
It was predatory contact.' The court’s decision underscores the importance of safeguards designed to protect vulnerable children from individuals who pose such risks, especially when offenders like Reynolds demonstrate manipulative behaviors and breach court orders repeatedly.
