Winchcombe Sexual Abuser
In a deeply troubling case that has shaken the community of Winchcombe, a man named David Pulley has been convicted of heinous sexual offenses involving young children. The incident came to light last year, revealing a pattern of abuse that has left a lasting impact on the victims and their families.

Mrs. A, the mother of two young children aged 12 and 7, chose to remain anonymous to protect her children’s identities. She recounted the devastating trauma her family endured after discovering Pulley's crimes. She expressed her shock and disbelief, stating that she had never suspected Pulley, a 61-year-old resident of Barnmeadow Road in Winchcombe, of any wrongdoing against her children, who were only 7 and 4 years old at the time of the offenses.

Last Friday, Pulley was sentenced to a prison term of two years and nine months at Gloucester Crown Court. The court heard that the parents of the children had trusted Pulley, knowing him as someone who would entertain their children at his home. Mr. Davis, representing the prosecution, explained that the boy was a frequent visitor to Pulley's residence, often going there to watch television and play.

However, the situation took a dark turn when it was revealed that Pulley had sexually assaulted the young girl during her visits. She was reportedly sitting on Pulley's lap while he was seated on the toilet, an act that was part of the abuse. Mrs. A described her shock, saying, “If I was going to work he would say they can come round my house. It was just for a couple of hours.”

Further disturbing details emerged during the court proceedings. Pulley had shown the boy pornographic magazines and videos, and had touched him inappropriately. The court also heard that Pulley had made the girl sit on his lap while he was on the toilet, an act that compounded the trauma inflicted upon her.

Mrs. A expressed her intense feelings about Pulley's actions, saying, “I don’t think I could put into words what I think about him. My husband wanted to go down and beat his head in. The only thing that has kept him away is the thought that it would be him that ended up being locked up.”

The abuse was uncovered in May of the previous year when the boy was staying with friends. Despite the severity of the crimes, Mrs. A noted that her children are coping reasonably well, although she acknowledged that they have suffered emotionally. She shared that her daughter, when staying with her nanny, would cry and express fears that Pulley might come and harm her again. Her son, meanwhile, has faced teasing from other children following the accusations but has expressed frustration at having to discuss the incident repeatedly.

Mrs. A praised her son’s resilience, saying, “I quite admire him really. He had so much stick over it.” She also expressed a sense of relief that Pulley received a sentence she considers appropriate, which includes not only the prison term but also a three-year license upon release and indefinite registration on the Sex Offenders’ Register. She remarked, “Before I went to court I wouldn’t have been pleased with that, but they were playing on his age. He will be watched and he will lose his house in Winchcombe.”

Her message to other parents was clear: “My message to other parents is to be much more wary about who you trust with your kids.”

Her husband added his thoughts, stating, “I’m pleased there has been some recognition of what he’s done. In an ideal world it could have been a longer sentence but at least I hope he won’t come out and do it to any other children.”
