DAVID POTTS CONVICTED OF SERIOUS SEXUAL OFFENCES IN FIFE
In July and September 2017, David Potts, a 59-year-old man from Kirkcaldy, was convicted and sentenced for a series of sexual offences against two young boys in Fife.
The offences occurred between May 2005 and October 2007, at various addresses in the region.
The High Court in Edinburgh heard that Potts sexually assaulted his first victim when he was just eight years old at a property in Burntisland.
It was revealed that Potts, who has previous convictions for assault and dishonesty, continued abusing this boy for over two years.
Additionally, the court heard how Potts targeted another boy, aged seven, at a house in Kirkcaldy, beginning the abuse in September 2006 and continuing until October 2007.
The case was brought to light following a week-long trial in July 2017, during which jurors deliberated for a day before unanimously finding Potts guilty of five charges.
Judge Nigel Morrison QC sentenced Potts to seven years in prison and ordered him to be supervised for two years post-release, emphasizing the severity of the crimes by stating, “These are serious offences.” The court had deferred sentence to allow for reports on Potts’ character, with sentencing scheduled for August 15, 2017.
