DAVID PAUL FROM KIDD JAILED FOR CHILD ABUSE IN SPENNYMOOR AND TEESSIDE
In a case that has shocked the local community, David Paul, a man from Kidd, was sentenced to five years in prison after admitting to four counts of indecent assault involving two young girls during the 1980s. The sentencing took place at Teesside Crown Court, where the gravity of his actions was laid bare.Prior to his court appearance for sentencing, 59-year-old David Paul of Neville Close, Spennymoor, took the step of resigning from his employment and returned the keys to his council house. This was reportedly in anticipation of a lengthy prison sentence, reflecting his awareness of the severity of the charges against him.
During the hearing, Paul’s legal representative, Katherine Dunn, addressed the court, explaining that her client had little memory of the offenses committed over two decades ago. Despite this, she stated that Paul was prepared to accept the accounts provided by the two young girls involved. Dunn described her client as “shattered and shameful” about his past actions and emphasized that he was still struggling to come to terms with what he had done.
Ms. Dunn further explained that Paul was seeking help to ‘unblock’ his memories of the past, with the hope of preventing similar behavior in the future. She stressed that her client accepted full responsibility for his actions and expressed remorse for the harm caused.
During the proceedings, it was revealed that at the time of the offenses, Paul had threatened one of the girls, telling her that he would kill her if she disclosed what he called “our little secret.” This chilling detail underscored the manipulative and threatening nature of his conduct.
In addition to his prison sentence, the court ordered David Paul to be registered on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life. Furthermore, he was permanently banned from working with children, a measure aimed at protecting potential victims from future harm. The case has left a lasting impact on the community, highlighting the importance of vigilance and safeguarding vulnerable individuals from abuse.
