DAVID PARRY OF RUNCORN SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN CHESTER COURT

A man from Runcorn, David Parry, 39, who was planning to open a toy shop, has been sentenced to prison after engaging in an online grooming operation.

Parry was caught in an undercover police sting operating in the East Midlands, where he communicated sexually with what he believed was a 12-year-old girl.

He exchanged messages with a fake persona called Zoe via Kik Messenger between October 8 and October 20 of last year.

Prosecutor Matthew Dunford explained that Zoe was an undercover officer, and Parry’s messages quickly took on a sexual tone.

When Zoe asked why he used the profile name 'UKDaddyDom,' Parry responded, 'I like to be dominant when I’m with a girl, I like to play the daddy role.' On October 21, Parry sent a sexual photograph of himself wearing Cookie Monster pyjama bottoms.

The following day, he expressed being very horny and asked Zoe to send him a sexual picture, assuring her, 'I won’t tell anyone.' He also sent a video of himself performing a sex act.

On November 10, officers from Cheshire Police arrested Parry at his home in Runcorn, seizing two laptops and a mobile phone.

Although Parry denied possessing indecent images, forensic analysis uncovered 210 images, including 48 of the most serious 'Category A' abuse images of girls aged 5 to 13, along with Category B and C images.

Digital evidence showed he had shared two Category A images on November 25, 2012.

Parry claimed he had spoken to online contacts who appeared to be under 18 but admitted, 'you never know.' During his court appearance at North Cheshire Magistrates Court in Warrington on November 23, Parry pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including making indecent images of a child, causing a child under 13 to watch sexual activity, possessing indecent images, possessing a prohibited image, distributing indecent images, and attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.

It was noted that Parry had seven previous convictions for 16 offences, none of which were sexual in nature; his past convictions included attempted robbery and possession of an imitation firearm.

His most recent conviction prior to this case was in 2008.

Defense lawyer Paul Wood highlighted Parry’s prompt guilty pleas and the fact that the abuse images weren’t recent, mostly from 2010 to 2012.

He requested the court consider a suspended sentence to aid Parry’s rehabilitation, noting the small number of images involved in distribution as an aggravating factor being minimal.

Wood also expressed that Parry is 'very sorry' and ‘knows he has to change his ways,’ mentioning the personal impact of the case and his mental health struggles.

He acknowledged that Parry had minimized his attraction to young girls and tried to blame alcohol and drugs for his actions.

Parry owns a business, which his solicitor emphasized was reasonable to continue.

Judge Michael Leeming, presiding, informed the court that Parry had applied to open a toy shop in Halton and emphasized that his offenses spanned over a decade, warranting a custodial sentence.

Concluding his judgment, the judge sentenced Parry to three years and two months in prison, imposed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order, and mandated registration as a sex offender indefinitely.

Parry’s guilty pleas indicated he acknowledged his part in the demand and victimization of vulnerable children.

The judge warned, 'It’s important for you to understand these aren’t victimless offences.' While the attempted sexual communication charges did not involve an actual child victim, the case demonstrated an escalation in Parry’s offending.

Describing Parry’s minimization of his crimes as troubling, the judge expressed doubt about his prospects for rehabilitation but considered reports suggesting he is a medium risk of serious harm.

Noting positive actions, such as engaging with his GP about depression, abstaining from alcohol, and his willingness to open the toy shop, the judge decided Parry could be managed in the community.

A recent social media post from Parry’s business page announced it would be temporarily closed due to 'appointments.'
