DAVID OGILVIE'S HORRIFIC CRIME SPREE IN KIRKCALDY: FLAMETHROWER AND DOMESTIC ABUSE TERROR

A man from Kirkcaldy, identified as David Ogilvie, has been sentenced to four years in prison after a series of violent and abusive acts spanning over a decade.

Ogilvie, aged 29 and residing on Ostlers Way in Kirkcaldy, was found guilty of multiple charges related to domestic abuse, assault, stalking, and terrifying threats against four women he was involved with over the years.

During his last court appearance at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court, Sheriff Jamie Gilchrist QC described a particularly grotesque incident involving Ogilvie wielding a makeshift flamethrower.

The incident involved Ogilvie spraying an aerosol can at the head of his then-partner and subsequently setting the contents ablaze.

The sheriff emphasized that this act was a “grotesque attack” which must have been “absolutely terrifying” for the victim.

Although she was not physically burned, she felt the intense heat from the flame as Ogilvie held it close to her head, leaving her distressed and shaken by the ordeal.

Ogilvie admitted to repeatedly assaulting his first victim at six different addresses within Kirkcaldy between January 1, 2007, and June 13, 2010.

His assaults included hitting her on the head, punching her in the head and body, grabbing and pulling her hair, pinning her to a bed, and kicking her.

These violent episodes paint a disturbing picture of ongoing abuse during that period.

Following this, Ogilvie engaged in a stalking campaign from 2010 to 2012.

His obsessive behavior included following the woman, loitering outside her residence, placing glue in her door locks, throwing stones at her windows, and tossing flowers onto the veranda of her flat.

He also repeatedly sent threatening and abusive text messages and made harassing phone calls.

His stalking extended to driving past her house slowly and following her into town, further intensifying her fear and distress.

Between June 2015 and May 2017, Ogilvie’s pattern of harassment continued with his second victim.

During this period, he followed her and drove up and down her street, exhibiting controlling and obsessive behavior.

In 2016, he terrorized a third woman during a four-month relationship, during which he lit a deodorant can near her head, an act that could have caused serious injury.

The fourth victim was subjected to Ogilvie’s violent and controlling tendencies in July 2015.

He repeatedly seized her by the body and pulled her to the ground by her hair, causing her significant fear and distress.

Court reports revealed that Ogilvie’s controlling and jealous nature led him to accuse the women of infidelity, despite his own unfaithfulness.

His abusive behavior included assaults against women who were pregnant and even against a woman holding a baby in her arms in June 2008.

During proceedings, defense solicitor Christine Hagan stated that Ogilvie is now with a new partner and is attempting to make amends for his past actions.

Despite this, Sheriff Gilchrist QC sentenced Ogilvie to four years’ imprisonment, a sentence reduced by one year due to his guilty plea.

The court’s decision underscores the severity of Ogilvie’s decade-long campaign of violence and harassment against multiple women in Kirkcaldy, highlighting the ongoing issue of domestic abuse and stalking in the community.
