DAVID OGILVIE CAUGHT IN COVENTRY: SHOCKING CHILD ABUSE REVEALED AT WARWICK CROWN COURT

In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the Coventry community, David Ogilvie, a 49-year-old man from March Way, Ernsford Grange, Coventry, was sentenced to a total of nearly five years in prison for heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of young girls.

The case came to light after a vigilant teenager confided in a neighbor about troubling messages she had received from Ogilvie, which ultimately led to a police investigation and the uncovering of multiple instances of abuse.

The incident was first brought to public attention in May 2017, when a 14-year-old girl showed her neighbor, a young married woman, some alarming text messages from Ogilvie.

The neighbor, noticing the inappropriate and suggestive nature of the messages, immediately became concerned.

The messages contained language that suggested grooming behavior, with Ogilvie discussing her clothing, mentioning he was about to shower, and attempting to persuade her to skip school to meet him in a park.

Recognizing the potential danger, the neighbor promptly contacted the police, who then involved the girl’s school in the investigation.

As the police delved deeper into the case, another girl came forward, revealing that Ogilvie had sexually assaulted her when she was between 10 and 11 years old.

She recounted that Ogilvie had kissed her, putting his tongue in her mouth, and had forced her to sit on him, rubbing himself against her.

She also described an incident at a hotel during a wedding they both attended, where Ogilvie again engaged in inappropriate contact, including putting her on top of him and rubbing himself against her.

The girl further disclosed that she had visited Ogilvie’s home at age 12, where he warned her not to tell anyone, threatening that he would go to prison and his daughter would grow up without a father if she did.

Ogilvie’s arrest occurred at Birmingham Airport in June 2017, as he returned from a holiday.

During police interviews, he admitted to sending the texts to the first girl but claimed they were not sexual in nature.

He also acknowledged that he might have cuddled the second girl but insisted there was nothing sexual about it.

However, police investigations revealed a darker side to Ogilvie’s actions.

Electronic devices seized from him contained numerous images of the second girl, many of which were taken from her social media profiles, including photos of her in bikinis.

Some images were copied onto his devices, and others were taken secretly when he saw her playing outside, which the prosecution described as for Ogilvie’s gratification.

In court, Judge Peter Cooke sentenced Ogilvie to four years and eight months in prison.

The sentence was broken down to include a five-month term for the additional offense of secretly taking photographs of the first girl, which was ordered to run consecutively to the main sentence.

The judge also ordered Ogilvie to register as a sex offender for life, emphasizing the severity of his crimes and their impact on the victims.

During the sentencing, Judge Cooke expressed his condemnation of Ogilvie’s actions, stating, “You are before me for serious offences which have blighted the lives of two young people.

These matters came to light when [the first girl], troubled and not knowing what to make of texts she had been receiving from you, showed them to her neighbour, to whom we should all be grateful.

The language of those texts was clearly and obviously flirtatious.

It is clear to me that what you were about was grooming her with a view to sexual activity.

That neighbour did precisely the right thing, and that led to an investigation.

It was in that context [the other girl] revealed she had been subjected to sexual assaults at your hands.” Ogilvie’s case highlights the importance of vigilance and community involvement in protecting vulnerable young people from exploitation and abuse.

The Coventry community and authorities hope that justice has been served and that the victims can begin to recover from the trauma inflicted upon them.
