DUNFERMLINE SOLDIER DAVID NOTMAN FINED FOR THIRD DOMESTIC ABUSE CASE
A soldier from Dunfermline has been fined after being convicted of domestic abuse for the third time.The offender, David Notman, 26, of Woodmill Crescent, previously admitted that on April 2, 2016, at an address in Oakley, he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting, swearing, and punching a door.
During court proceedings, depute fiscal Carrie Stevens stated that Notman was drinking with his ex-girlfriend when he became agitated.
An argument ensued, and he shouted and swore at her, then punched a hole in the bedroom door, which resulted in him cutting his hand.
The incident was not reported to the police until May of that year.
When charged and cautioned, Notman responded with, 'It's all lies.' His defense solicitor, Alexander Flett, commented that it was clearly a poor relationship and that they had not been together since December, with Notman expressing a desire to have no contact.
The court was told that the incident was not reported immediately for reasons unknown but noted that Notman, who is a private serving in the army, may be deployed to Iraq in January.
Sheriff Charles Macnair underscored the seriousness of the case, pointing out that this was Notman's third domestic offense conviction and that he also had previous convictions for disorderly conduct.
The sheriff warned that continued behavior could result in custody but, taking into account the circumstances and the delayed reporting, ultimately fined Notman £450.
