DAVE MORTIMER OF BARNET CONVICTED FOR CHILD INDECENCY IMAGES IN SHOCKING CASE
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the community, retired police officer David Mortimer, aged 58, has been found guilty of producing indecent images of minors following a comprehensive investigation by the National Crime Agency (NCA).The conviction was handed down on September 5, 2019, after a four-day trial held at Kingston Crown Court. The case came to light after authorities arrested Mortimer at his residence in Barnet, London, on July 4, 2018. During the arrest, law enforcement officers seized his personal electronic devices, including a laptop and a mobile phone, which became central to the evidence against him.
Analysis of Mortimer’s laptop revealed a disturbing 30-minute video classified as Category A, the most severe level of sexual abuse content, depicting a girl from Southeast Asia. Further forensic examination uncovered that the device had been used to download files associated with child abuse, with file-sharing software indicating active downloading activities during February 20 and February 21, 2018. Additionally, recovered movie file names from deleted areas of the computer suggested a pattern of child exploitation material.
Investigators also found conversations on Mortimer’s laptop and mobile device, in which he discussed seeking girls as young as 14 years old. These exchanges, with unidentified individuals, pointed to a disturbing intent and premeditation. Despite Mortimer’s efforts to conceal his online activities, he claimed that his actions were part of an attempt to gather evidence of child abuse for law enforcement purposes.
It is noteworthy that Mortimer, who dedicated three decades of his life working for the Metropolitan Police, has no prior criminal record. His background and the nature of his offenses have shocked many, raising questions about the potential risks posed by individuals with law enforcement backgrounds.
He is scheduled to be sentenced at Kingston Crown Court on October 3, with the case highlighting ongoing concerns about online child exploitation and the importance of vigilant law enforcement efforts to combat such heinous crimes.
