A man named David McLeish, aged 46, was convicted of killing Donna Black, who was 43, at her apartment in Clydebank on December 11 of the previous calendar year.McLeish had a long history of violence, with 57 prior convictions for assault-related offenses.
Just two days before the murder, he had been released from a six-month jail sentence for assaulting Donna Black.
During the attack, McLeish, who is 6ft 4ins tall and weighs 18 stones, inflicted severe injuries on Donna, a woman who only reached 5ft 3ins.
His violent assault included punching, kicking, and smashing her head with a frying pan, which caused 13 rib fractures and brain injury, leading to her eventual death from internal damages, including tears in her bowel and spleen.
Donna had managed to call emergency services during the attack, crying out that she was being murdered.
The judge at Glasgow’s High Court, Lord Bracadale, sentenced McLeish to life in prison with a minimum of 17 years before parole could be considered.
Upon his removal to serve the sentence, a member of Donna’s family voiced their anger, declaring, 'Hope you rot in hell.'
