GLASGOW RAPIST DAVID MCCUE ROSS FLEEING COURT LEAVES VICTIMS AND POLICE IN SHOCK
In a disturbing case that has shocked the Glasgow community, David McCue, also known as David Ross, was sentenced to a total of eight years in prison for heinous sexual offenses committed over a span of several years.The crimes, which included multiple assaults on women and a young girl, took place across various neighborhoods in Glasgow, notably in Townhead and Barlanark.
The severity of his actions and the subsequent flight from justice have left victims and authorities grappling with a sense of betrayal and outrage.
McCue, aged 40 and hailing from Springboig, Glasgow, was found guilty of a series of repeated sexual attacks, including assaults while victims were asleep.
The court heard that between 2010 and 2018, he sexually abused a girl aged between 7 and 13, as well as an adult woman.
The gravity of these offenses was underscored by the judge, Olga Pastportikov, who emphasized the devastating impact on the victims.
She stated, “Your actions were despicable.
You robbed a child of her innocence and left a woman thinking she was responsible.
Crimes such as yours must attract a custodial sentence.” Despite the conviction, McCue’s actions did not end there.
During the trial at the High Court in Glasgow, he shockingly absconded before the jury could deliver its verdict.
He was on the run for approximately two months, evading law enforcement efforts to apprehend him.
His disappearance was characterized by the defense as a result of a ‘mental health meltdown,’ with his lawyer, Sarah Livingstone, claiming that McCue had camped in a forest to avoid capture.
However, the victim and her supporters dismissed these claims as false and pitiful, asserting that there are no forests in Springboig and accusing McCue of protecting those who sheltered him during his time on the run.
The victim expressed her disdain, saying, “He’s protecting the paedophile and rapist lovers who let him stay in their homes for two months.
Playing the mental health card is pathetic as well.
The enormity of what he had done has hit him and he’s run away like the coward he is.” In court, Judge Pastportikov sentenced McCue to seven years for the sexual offenses and an additional year for contempt of court due to his failure to appear.
She condemned his conduct, stating, “Your actions were despicable.
You robbed a child of her innocence and left a woman thinking she was responsible.
Crimes such as yours must attract a custodial sentence.” Furthermore, McCue was placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his status within the community.
Following his disappearance, police launched an extensive manhunt.
Despite initial efforts, McCue remained at large, prompting authorities to issue a public appeal for information and urging him to surrender voluntarily.
Law enforcement officials targeted multiple addresses, including those of his family members in the east end of Glasgow and in Cumbernauld, in hopes of locating him.
The police’s efforts intensified after it was revealed that McCue had been convicted in absentia of abusing a young girl and an adult woman, with charges spanning from 2010 to 2018.
The authorities emphasized that McCue’s flight was a deliberate act of defiance against the court’s authority, and they warned the public not to approach him if seen.
It was only in May 2023 that McCue was finally apprehended, bringing relief to the victims and law enforcement.
